I've got a small pocket on the sheath of my knife that I carry during hiking trips. I'd like to fill the pocket with some bare minimum survival gear. It is a small pocket, about 1"x4"x.5". I can fit a swedish firesteel in it, and possibly another small item. The only problem is, I'm not sure what that other small item should be. If you had room for just one other small item for a survival situation in a northern woodland climate, what would it be? Also note I'm going to be tying some paracord around the sheath, so that won't be considered for being put in the pocket. Thanks.

You can always find room for a couple of needles, safety pins, tweezers from a SAK, and a fish hook or two.

Wrap the firesteel with some fishing line. Even a few feet can be used as a less visible leader and use a strand from your paracord as the main fishing line.

Stuff some tinder from a Spark-lite in as well.

Perhaps an ACR flat whistle would fit, esp if you traded out the firesteel for a Spark-lite which may be smaller?

Or maybe a couple of Micro Pur tabs and a gerber milk bag?

How about a Photon Micro Light? Those things are tiny and always useful.

Hmmm... Firesteel, piece of tinder card, photon, button compass, and the previously mentioned fishing line and hooks.

Just put a sharpening stone in that sheat and assemble a PSK, FAK and carry a survival bag. If you are in a survival situation, you'll be glad you have it all with you !

How about a piece of fatwood to go with your ferro rod? Scrape the side and it makes great tinder to catch a spark.

The stuff in this sheath isn't all I carry... I am already carrying a Doug Ritter PSK, a larger personal PSK I made, a decent sized First Aid Kit, and many other tools. This question I am asking is basically just another last-resort backup option incase I happen to lose my pack and have everything fall out of my pockets somehow... then I'm still left with this knife and some gear strapped to my leg.
