Last night I caught the last have of a Discovery Channel show, "Island of the Pygmys." It's about how Columbian Mamouths that were stranded on a large island that evolved over time into a smaller species, the Pygmy Mamouth. Interesting show, but what really caught my attention was that these archiologists were digging on one of the Channel Islands, a location that I know our resident archiologist, Chris Kavanaugh, frequents. It was Santa Rosa I believe.

But I did not hear his named mentioned once. Bah!

Still, it's an interesting show. Plus I logged in this morning and reread Chris' recounting of his ordeal. Having seen the environment on TV reinforced the imagry in my imagination from his tale.

Actually, aside from creating many Beer bottle middens on Santa Catalina, the Islands are our colleage's provinance. In the spirit of Oddyseus, I was (honorably) discharged and began walking inland with an oar. I stumbled upon an archaeological excavation. Immediately 3 grad students wrote copious monoliths ( complete with footnotes) with three interpretations on what it was. I knew I had found an academic pursuit worthy of my measured, introspective and analytic intellect ;O)

Yep, and it wasn't Madonna , Cher, Brittney Spears ( I thought that was a new vegetable with Hollandais sauce for a week), Barbra Striesand or Cindy Lauper. I heard Monserat Cabaile' sing O MIO BABBINO CARO from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi at the San Francisco Opera ( far far away and a long time ago.) You have no idea the trouble my horse and I get into on group rides, bringing Opera or Rock CDs ( jake likes Pink Floyd) instead of Willie Nelson.
