I no longer fly that much, these last years.
But a few months ago, I took a flight from Paris CDG to Rio.

At Charles De Gaulle airport, .before passing the security check, I asked about my Surefire G2 at the attendant, at the entry of the pre-check zone : he said it was forbidden.
So I go to another entry point, asked another guy : he said small flash lights like that were allowed, but not the bigger ones with those huge square batterries (I don't know the reference for those...). I guess its the battery itself which is forbidden inside cabin.
And indeed, I had no problem at the security check point. All my EDC lights (3 or 4) went thru alright.
As for knife, I didn't take any chance : I put an old Spyderco (retired from EDC for a few years) in my checked in luggage. No problemo. So in Rio, I had at least this short blade on me.

As for internal flights, years ago I used to put my knife and/or Leatherman PST II in a pouch, along with other tools, and the pouch in my cabin hand luggage ; I would go thru the security check, no question asked.
Until that day in Nice, well before 9/11, were they refused my coworker to take its electrical screwdriver ( ) in its cabin luggage. We both get back to the counter and checked both our bags in, mine with knife and Leatherman PST II securely stashed inside.
