This lost skier and his son could have used a pocket PSK. They probably would have been located after one or two days had they had the knowledge and materials to start a fire.

I have seen the show a few times. With the exception of the guy who got kidnapped, most of the stories seem to have the theme of "I was unprepared, over my head, then stupid, then SAR found me". Lots of good lessons in what not to do. I find myself asking the TV things like "Where is your knife, where is your light, where is your fire starting materials" etc. But the TV never answers. <img src="/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I just watched the show that you reference. Yes, a Ritter PSK would have made a BIG difference. Darn lucky that they survived at all!

Yes. He lost part of one toe, and the tip of another. Two months in the hospital.

Sure did. I think they hit their stride with this ep. They didn't show everyone who survived right away in the interviews, so viewers did not know if the son lived or not. Then later, when the son was shown being rescued, his interview was finally shown. Good show. I like it.
