My initial survival training was with C.A.P. , in the early '70s, so I was carring a lot of heavy duty stuff more suited to a SAR mission than for personal "one time" use.
Shelter you ask? in my old pack it was a '50s issue shelter half, and poncho, now it's a 3oz mylar bag, and a 4oz poncho.
When I found ETS it was like a light bulb coming on, I went through my gear and started chucking. My "new" stuff weighs in just under 18 oz vs over 10 lbs in my "old" pack.
I'm still working on a BOB, and will probably recycle most of the old stuff into that, but now I have a PSK that is small and light enough that I'm willing to carry.
