In the first Tomb Raider movie and a Stallone movie, where Stallone's group gets stuck in a cave in, they use what looks like a heavy duty glow stick. In both movies, the sticks are orange in color. Unless it's a movie effect, it seems there is a slight hum coming from the light, similar to a flourescent light bulb.

Anyone know what these tubes are?

There is a 15" Chem-light avalible in orange but are difficult to find. I ahve used these for a number of times to mark turns, landing zones or hazardous areas where retrevial is unlikely. They work well, but are expensive and bulky. If you need a disposposable but brighter (than a regular chem light) light source then these may be useful to you...

It doesn't look like a chem light per say. It glows like one, but there are dark colored caps on both ends.

I am glad to know where I can find those 15" chem sticks though...good for the kids!

It was like a krill light with on and off at the bottom. At one point REI carried it.

I believe the caps are to give it mass at the ends, so you can activate it one handed by wacking it on something. Looks cool, but why not just both hands?

The 15" chem lights I have used are actually designed to be throw and activate when they hit. Activating it one handed would be really easy, I'll check next weekend at a training event.

Not having watched either of the movies in question, I was just making a guess based on the description <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
