It may just be cheap junk, but if someone buys it, it may start them off. And it still puts them ahead of the people who just carry a beer and an out-of-range cell phone.

I like the case often I buy the all in one deals just to scavage the custum cases.

Yeah. I actually thought that the Nomad was pretty cool. I might order one to test it out.

I have this bulky Ozark Trail Brand Knife, Fork, Spoon, Bottle Opener, Corkscrew Combo in my BOB right now. All the utencils are full size, beefy, fold up and connect together into a relatively small package, but still it takes up a decent amount of space and it's heavy.

I like the case myself. I was thinking much the same thing.

TELL me about it. The people I work with are the nicest, but their idea of being prepared is carrying a cell phone.

They don't wear wristwatches, and they say the light from their cell phones would serve to guide them in an emergency.

I have showed them a bit of what I carry, but they grin and call me Eeyore. Sigh.

That reminds me of a kind of funny story that happened to me. Back before I EDC'd my trusty Ritterphotonlight with me, we had the power go out while I was at work. Well, I was not only at work, I was actually sitting in a stall in the men's room. Though some parts of the building have emergency lighting the men's room was not one of them. I was instantly in pitch black darkness.

Though it really wantn't what one might call a survival situation I did STOP (Stop-Think-Observe-Plan). I had one of the old PageWriters on my belt (the clamshell text pagers) and used the screen light as a flashlight. It was enough to ... uh ... finish up, wash my hands, and find the door. Even the halls were incredibly dark, but I managed to find my way back to my desk where I did have a flashlight waiting.

Moral of the story:

1. Don't get caught with your pants down.

2. Don't underestimate the need for some kind of EDC light source.

3. Even the glow of a cell phone (or pager) can make a big difference.

4. Proper sanitation (washing hands) is important even in an "emergency" situation.

Don't usually sign in unless I want to post. Don't like to save password on my p.c. - Just drop in to scan the current topics. I suspect most of your incognito visitors are like me. What advantage (for the forum) to sign in just for a quick update? If it makes a difference I will begin to signin.

For the price, it's not bad. Not quality components I don't suspect (EB seems to have gone down hill a bit) but it might be just the sort of non-threatening thing to initiate the reluctant. I have a co-worker who thought preparedness in Chicago (in the middle of civilization for Pete's sake!) was ludicrous. But, after 9/11 and Katrina she's thinking a bit differently. This might be right up her [rat-infested] alley.

I was unable to resist. I ordered one this morning. In black, of course.

Actually, all those items would be useful in a survival kit, but I must question the quality of them.

That thing is pretty cool, I just keep the Ka-Bar Hobo in my kit, it fills a lot of other needs, and I just cant get my beefy meat hooks around those other little utensils.

I picked up 2 utensil sets at American Science & Surplus about a year ago. Come to find out they are NATO issued (supposedly). It's grey with spots on the side for the fork & spoon (which have hexes stamped out in the handles, and flat head screwdriver on the end of each). It also has a corkscrew (like on a sak), and the knife blade is honkin' huge. There is also a can opener that flips out. There is a pic of it here...
