Hello, everyone.

I'm looking for an every day carry folding knife. I have a mini-RSK, which I love; trouble is, my job restricts blades to 2.5", and the mini-RSK exceeds that. I'd love a knife that's similar, but I doubt there's anything like it avaiable in this size. From what I've seen one-handed opening knives aren't generally made this small. Definitely want a belt clip. I'm not going to cheap out so cost isn't a big concern. Material is important. I don't usually carry a sharpener with me, but I do carry a Leatherman tool (usually my Juice Pro) which can serve as backup if the folder becomes dull. I've been looking at the SOG Mini Topo. Anyone have experience with that knife? Other suggestions?

Thank you.

The Kershaw Chive is about the right size, I think. I have been carrying one for about a year now, and I like it.

In Chicago we're limited to 2.5" blades for carry knives. I've been carrying a CRKT Mt. Shasta for several years now and gave one as a gift. They're very sturdy, smooth-operating knives but aren't so expensive I'd be put out if I lost one. I paid $25-30.

Spyderco - C93 Navigator II

www.Spyderco.com

length overall 5 7/16" (138 mm) blade length 2 1/4" (57 mm) blade steel VG-10
length closed 3 1/4" (83 mm) cutting edge 1 15/16" (49 mm) weight 2.7 oz (76 g)
hole diameter 15/32" (12 mm) blade thickness 3/32" (2.5 mm) handle material Stainless Steel

We live in a world today where using a full-sized pocketknife in public can at times create notice. Spyderco has invested effort in developing a small-stature folder with ample blade strength and handle leverage for full-sized and large cutting jobs. The C93 Navigator II focuses on three features found in larger, hard-use pocketknives: A strong lock, robust blade and ergonomically advanced handle. Combined, these features convey the tactile sensation and performance features of a full-sized knife packing significant cutting power yet the Navigator II’s blade is just 2-1/4” long. Made from VG-10 stainless the blade is available SpyderEdged or PlainEdged. Its cutting edge is saber-ground on both sides of the blade for superior cutting capacity. Positioned above the Spyderco Round Hole a spine cusp forms a stable leveraging point on which the thumb rests. On the underside of the all-steel handle are a series of sculpted angles cut away to optimally settle the hand and fingers into grip position. The pocket clip carries the folder tip-down or can be used unobtrusively as a money-clip or tie tack.

While browsing the Spyderco-site a few days ago, I found this one. Might fit the bill.

I have no experience with it. The only spyderco I have is a Yellow ladybug on my keychain.

Thats a promising little knife. I'd think I might have to look around on the net for some user reviews.

In CA, you can't carry greater than 2.5" on school grounds and I have school aged children. So I EDC an earlier version of this William Henry knife:

They're expensive, but well worth it, especially now that they're using ZDP-189 steel.

I don't know how the SOG Mini Topo is, but I bought the SOG Micron [1 1/2" blade] and it was a Chinese made piece of junk. I sold it on ebay for what I paid for it. The blade wouldn't hardly even open and it was a major disappointment. I expected better from SOG.

If you want something different, some of the CPF crowd likes the Superknife, a well made folder that uses box cutter blades:

It's not for everyone but it's pretty cool. Sooner or later I'll get one.

FWIW, I have a Spyderco Jester on my keychain and I like it just fine.

I bought a Navigator II C93 a few days ago on eBay. When it arrives (should be in a few days) I'll post my impressions here, probably in a new thread. I searched for reviews myself, but as is usual while searching for reviews I only came up with sites that were selling the knife.
