I already have so much stuff behind the truck seat that I have trouble getting it all to fit without shifting. And there's no way that I can remove one thing without removing most of the other stuff. I need to work on this....

I need to work on this.... You know what ..???... I think what this forum is missing is a specialized section : a counselling section, with some kind of psychological support : a virtual divan and a therapist .... someone who would listen to our imperious need to keep such and such gear in our PSK or our BOB, be it a SAK or a blanket .....

I already have so much stuff behind the truck seat that I have trouble getting it all to fit Sue, I feel your pain! The storage area behind the seat of my '87 F-150 is so jammed with gear that it pushes the seat forward. I tried buying a sporty little extended cab '02 Mazda truck with the extra room in mind. Got to drive it for 2 months, then oldest daughter got her license and I'm back to the old '87. Dang! Scott

I have an extended cab and a tool box in the bed. Both of those are full, and part of the front seat is as well. Of course, I have three 30 gallon rubbermaids in the bedroom full of "gear". I don't need a bigger truck, I need a bigger world.

Sorry Frenchy: I'm a Psychologist. It is unethical to take on a case if you don't have a reasonable expectation of being able to help. I've been on this Forum a long time. There is NO TREATMENT. Abandon hope.

NAro, next time try this line from the sage wisdom of Sgt. Hulka in "Stripes"
Francis: Touch my EDC, I'll kill ya! Touch my PSK, I'll kill ya! Touch my FAK, I'll kill ya! Call me Francis, I'll kill ya!
Dr. NAro: Lighten up Francis.

A change to the old saying? Gas, Grass, or Gear!
And by grass I mean the tall stuff in my yard that when dry works as a nice tinder.

"I'm trying to keep room for another occupant..."
I don't carry many people, thankfully. My dog goes with me quite a few places, but all of her stays on the seat, so the box on the floor doesn't have to be moved!

Good thinking!
a) Vehicle holds more. b) You don't have to share the granola bars & Dinty Moore Beef Stew. c) Gear doesn't whine.

In my part of the country, we have bad roads, deep ditches, and many creeks and gulleys. We end up with several vehicles in the ditch, with the driver unfound for several hours or days, and several found dead, overturned in shallow water, or trapped in a narrow ditch, injured, and can't get out.
I've taken to keeping a kit in an insulated nylon lunch bag, the kind with a water bottle on the side and handle on top, and looping the handle throught the seat belt, so that it stays right there, reachable with either hand, padded and not flying around the cabin in a crash or roll over. I don't think a lunch bag on the seat looks threatening to LEOs, or valuable to a thief.
If your immediate emergency kit is unreachable, behind or under the seat, it might be something the wrecker crew has listed on eBay after they tow your machine.
