A few weeks ago, we had a fellow come out of the woodwork, and due to a misunderstanding over internet protocol, he left feeling not-too-welcome. In his initial post, he asked us to check out his survival oriented web site, and some of us (me included) thought he was a bit forward, and some members let him know, in no uncertain terms. OK, unfamiliar newbie that didn't understand our ettiquette driven off, no big deal, that would have been the end of the story... BUT... curiosity got the best of me, and I followed him back. After hanging out over there for about a week, I came to find out, that while he might be a bit right wing for some of the folks here, he's not a bad guy. As far as the far right thing goes, I'm SURE that from time to time... I'm a bit far right for some of you... but we all manage to get along just fine (well, most of the time... thanks Chris for being such a good referee). Now that the preaching part is over, on to the golden opportunity... this fellow has a storefront that, due to health reasons, he's liquidating. There's a massive list of surplus gear posted over there that he's willing to send out for the cost of shipping... yea, that's right, cost of shipping only. When I suggested that he Ebay the stuff, his answer was that he wanted to help out folks who were trying to put together a kit, but were having a tough time of it money-wise. Not exactly what I'd call a bad guy. For anybody that wants to check out the site and the offer, it's thesurvivalist.tripod.com/thesurvivalistnetwork Be forwarned, there are a lot of Christian religious overtones there, but there are some pretty sharp minds there, and quite a few genuinely nice folks. For those of you familiar with me, you know that if it was a church meeting, I wouldn't be making this post. For those of you that have a few minutes, check 'em out, and tell 'em wildcard sent ya.

Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place, but I couldn't find anything for sale over there. Do you have a more detailed link?

At the opening page: top of the page; ENTER THE NETWORK bottom of the page; ENTER
go to; FORUMS go to; for sale
the gramar might not be the queen's English, but with most of the stuff, the pic.s speak for themselves.

Can you post a link to the web page?
Also, if you could, I'd be curious to read the original thread you are talking about.

As far as the link goes... anybody want to help??? I'm a keyboard neanderthal As to the original thread, I believe it was deleted, it got a little edgy.

Just go to the web site, highlight the address at the top of your browser ( http://www.something.com, or similar) and press the C key while holding down the Ctrl key, go back to the ETS forum, create a post and then paste it into the ETS forum post by pressing the V key while holding down the Ctrl key. The only message I get from Tripod is:
"Sorry, but the page or the file that you're looking for is not here."
I've tried variations on the link and did a search at tripod with no results. Has the site been pulled?

Wow, that's a serious downer. I hope he'll be OK.
Thanks for letting us know about the giveaway, but I'd seriously feel like a vulture for going over there to get some free kit. On the other hand, if he wants to sell the stuff because it would help out with his situation I'd certainly be happy to take a look.
In any case, please forward him my best wishes and hopes for a quick recovery.

Troy,
I was one who gave him not so warm welcome. Yup over last few months I found out I have a gift to [censored] people off but that's just me. We have a good place here and amount of information that flows thru posts is just unbelievable. Does that mean that we are done? Absolutely no. I will never stop learning. I’m no expert, I just know how to do some things better than the other things. Just like I will speak out about medical stuff since this would be my area of expertise I will still listen to others. But please do establish where you are coming from. You can be a 10 yo volunteering on the youth squad or a 50 yo coffee salesman, I don’t care but let me know who you are. So anyone who is willing to contribute is more that welcomed. Now we have been pretty civilized folks here and besides the same old "gun issues" we been having for years we behave pretty well. Having said that: we are polite and proper with each other, following internet etiquette to the max. New guys say hi, introduce themselves, contribute and everything is fine and dandy. When someone bursts in, leaves his website address and when asked to introduce himself or back up his knowledge he gives attitude, please understand that it may be a bit of a turn off. Now I'm not a guy who is going to talk junk without getting my facts straight. So indeed before even posting anything I did follow his link and checked his website and forum. On his website his bio was missing and his forum had a section where members were introducing themselves. So why now double standards? Information we share here are potentially life saving. I will tell you how it is without sugar coating it. Same goes for other members on ETS who been out there... I think that between all of us we have most of the occupations covered (well we are missing a Victoria Secret model) and we have a lot of experience. Mr. Zippoflint (or whatever his name was) coped an attitude, acted a bit paranoid and when few guys tried to give him some sense of direction he even further became a donkey.
Now personally I don’t care if his forum is rightwing, leftwing or chicken wing. I believe in honor and my handshake is as strong as any legal document. So personally it’s a big turn off for me when I meet people who are not straight forward. All he had to do is this: “Hi my name is John, I’ve been running a small gun stroe down south, I’ve been doing some rescue stuff and I have a website. Please check it out and let me know what you think.” After that it is smooth sailing… But telling me that he has no time for introduction and he gives me information that will save my life and I can take it or leave it… Who he thinks he is? God?

I am not accusing anyone of anything, but I am suspicious by nature and profession. If this person truly has health issues and cannot get his new business started, then I hope things work out for him. BUT, here is what I see as possibilities:
1) English is not his native written language. 2) When confronted by even minor things, he becomes defensive and tries to shout you down. 3) No background data. 4) If you read back through his posts (here and on his own site) he talks about currently living in the NE and SE United States. So, which is it? 5) If an offer is too good to be true, then it is probably a scam.
I have written about identity theft here before, and the collective response was silence, or that it only happens to other people. Maybe so. Send him a check (complete with your checking account number and routing number on the bottom, and name and address on the top) or your credit card number and expiration date (he will also need your name and your zip code to process the card). Please let me know how it works out for you. After all, you are only paying for shipping.
I think that I will sit by the sidelines and wait this one out.

I went and looked. He's giving away a large supply of what looks to be army surplus gear. I know he says he's doing this for health reasons , but..... If it was me I'd aleast try to re coup my cost of the gear. There is a very long list of goods being given away for shipping cost only.
I have to say on a side note , that when i first arrived at this forum everyone was very friendly to the newbie (thats me) I've picked up alot of very good knowledge and tips. I remember this guy getting pissed off real easy at this forum. not sure why? I'm very leary about offers that look to good. I'm not a very trusting person .sorry to say. I'll be very interested inseeing what developes from this "free to a good home " deal

You'll be helping out by taking the inventory, as I understand it, Nic. You're openminded and have a lot to add, stop by & check it out, you never know, you might find a second favorite site

Dude... I didn't point any fingers at anybody but myself, and I brought it up again hoping some of our fellow members could be part of a win-win situation, I don't want to be part of... or the cause of... an arguement, I just thought I'd bring the offer to light. As far as new members' approach goes, I've felt that I might have been the cause for shut down threads in the past... ya live and ya learn... I've been around for a while now, and I know MOST of the buttons not to push, but I'm still learning

After reading several posts, maybe I should say, I'm not endorsing anything or anybody, I saw an offer and brought it back. As to looking the site over... to each his own... so much for carrying the olive branch.

I'd like to apologize to you for sounding so harsh. I took the time to check out the web site and Ilike it! I read a few posts and he looks to be a stand up guy. I'm like an old dog sitting on his porch growling at strangers wanting to pat my head. Once again sorry for growling

No apology necessary, if you've caught some of my past posts, you know that I've been known to bark out of turn myself, but thanks.

Send a postal money order for your payment. No personal info except your address, which he needs to send the stuff, anyway.

EZ made the post today, that, yes, he will send out packages COD. I don't know how it gets any safer or easier than that.

Follow up. Earlier this week I received 2 medium ALICE packs, 2 poncho liners and 2 ammo pouches, items I had asked for. Due to a mixup during packing/shipping, I also received some items I didn't ask for. UPS shipping was $26 and change. I used Paypal and unused money for shipping was refunded. Anyone wanting ALICE pack frame, pistol belt or waterproof bags, PM me. I have 2 of each item.

quick question: I'm waiting for a medium ALICE pack to arrive here, did the ones he send to you have the shoulder straps? I just want to know if I should get to a surplus store and get me a pair if they are not included.
my portion of unused shipping charge was refunded as well.
thanks
david.

They did come with shoulder straps (I asked for them) but all of the straps had the top attachment missing. The straps were in otherwise nice shape. Mine was shipped UPS, he gave me the tracking # when I asked for it. All the stuff I got needed a washing. I guess you should wait and see what you get. If you wind up needing the lower attachment , PM me. Dave

I've got the bag and it appears that it has both upper and lower attachment straps, now the question is can I figure out how to attach them!
also for EZ (engerzyzippo), stand up guy and a nice forum. worth a trip over, although the thrust is a little different than this one.
