I just got a Cold Steel Khukri machete today. I'm wondering about sharpening the edge. As a machete, do I want a fine edge on it, or do I leave it as it is?

Traditional Machetes such as made by Tramontina have relatively soft steels and thin blades. The nature of the soft vegetation usually dullls the edges or dents the blade edge relatively rapidly. The usual sharpening tool is a fine mill bastard file. Even the fine Martindale british machete line includes one. US service issue and Cold Steel machetes tend to be thicker. You can put a fine edge on, but for the probable uses it's a wasted effort. A kukri pattern can be a very dangerous tool. Think twice and swing once.

Any tips on becker brute as I think I may have ruined it with a power drill grinder (complete with a water bath to keep metal cool)
