Hello all,
My wife and I are looking for a good light to carry in our vehicles for emergency/first responder situations.
We would like to upgrade from our old 6 D-cell Maglights.

We have narrowed it down to the Vulcan rechargeables and LiteBox rechargeables by Streamlight.

We considered the standard spotlights that can be run or recharged with the lighter outlet in the vehicle, but couldn’t find one that would stand on its own, a feature we would like.

Vulcan and LiteBox lights would seem the most versatile, both around our place, and on the road.

I just wish the had one with LEDs…(that didn’t cost a mint)

Any thoughts or experiences?

The Litebox has a swivel head, while the Vulcan doesn't, if I remember correctly. Battery life appears to be better with the Litebox vs. the Vulcan, too.

Streamlight also has the "FireBox" -- looks like a Litebox with a couple of LEDs in the back of it.

You might want to do a search over at www.candlepowerforums.com

CPF is a good place to ask, though it's somewhat centered around pocket sized LED lights and people will suggest those as the answer to just about anything no matter how inappropriate.

If you want something really monstrous, try a HID spotlight like the McCullough X990 or Maxabeam. Some of those will stand up on their own.

That couldn't be further from the truth. There are numerous threads on spotlights alone (as well as many other topics), which using the simple "search" function will uncover.
