I don't know the exact answer to your question, but this may help. I just looked at a product I have and I don't know if the term "micro mesh" is a brand name or the general name for the product. This product is used in wood working and I've seen it at wood working stores and I've also heard of violin makers using it. Someone told me once that when a bird flies into the windshield of an F-16, they use micro mesh to polish the resulting scratches out.

I (and other classical guitarists) use it to put a glass like finish on fingernails for playing.

Anyway, the point is, the roughest grit that I have in my fingernail kit is 2400. The finest is 12000.

I don't know if it will work for the procedure, but you may want to check into it.
