I am not LDS but my wife is, so I'm aware of their research and history related to Mormon emergency preparedness. For years the Mormon Church has suggested to their members to have on hand, at least one years food supply at all times. I don't think a great percentage of members have the space and time to rotate such a massive amount of food but at least it makes these folks aware of the need.
With the probabilities of potential events in this country on the rise (both man made and natural) the church is now asking communities to take inventory of the skills of the members in an effort to network. It's not a religious thing....it's preparedness of an entire community. It's worth perusing their web site for ideas.
web page IMO, a community effort towards survival is a good idea, however, I know that many in my immediate neighborhood would shy away as soon as I said the "S" word (don't you know survivalists hide in the woods behind trees wearing old skins with bear grease dripping from their chins?) So, while I will work with my wife on LDS community preparedness efforts, I will continue to prepare EDCs, BOBs and vehicle kits for my families..... and oh, BTW, when the church asks me about my skills, I'll tell them JRCS "jungle-rules chaos survival", and I play a little guitar too.
