I was really wanting an Atwood Micro BugOutBar, but really couldn't justify the $60, although I'm sure it's worth it. So, I made one myself. The picture isn't the greatest. http://webpages.charter.net/dougd/flash/IM000396.jpg
The finished product on the bottom started out as the one on top. I got it from http://www.mcmaster.com/ product number 6000A3. It is hardened spring steel. I thought I could modify it with my tools at home, but no go. I needed an industrial grinder to cit the piece off, and an arc welder to cut the hole. I was going to make two, but it was a lot more work than I anticipated.

Slick!
Have you come up with a use for the remaining 1/3 of the original bar?

About 15 minutes once I had the right tools.

Drill a hole for a split ring. That will give you some extra leverage for the angled bit.

I did and there is. It doesn't show well in the picture, but that's how the clip is attached. That was the hardest part and required the welder to cut it.

That's really impressive. Maybe I can enlist someone to help me build one. That's quite an impressive reduction in cost! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
