Today my long awaited Fenix LOP arrived. I am very impressed with the output of the light and the quality of the materials and finish, and how smooth the head works in the threads back and forth.

The switch is the head; just screwing it into the body stop will ignite the torch.
It can be used in candle mode, and it compares in size favorably with my regular EDC, the ARC AAA that I have used for a long time.

I had believed that the ARC was the ultimate small torch, and it is only today when I have to change my mind.

Well, this is not intended to be a review; I am sure somebody else with more knowledge will come along soon to give you a full review once these lights start arriving.

But I took one picture comparing the output of the ARC AAA to the Fenix LOP so you have an idea of what to expect from the light.

Also it passed my water glass test without issues.

I contacted Chevrofreak and asked his permission to post his run time test, so here it is.
He said that he did the test with a fully charged battery and the light registered 180 LUX with that one and 150 LUX with the one that was in the torch (although he said that the reading is probably exaggerated because his meter read 15 to 20 % higher).

Best regards to all!
Black Bear

I've followed the L0p discussion on cpf though I don't have one yet (I have an L1p which is similar but AA powered). I think the Arc makes more sense as an emergency light because of its much longer runtime. The L0p works pretty well on a NiMH cell or the somewhat rare L92 lithium AAA cell because of those cells' high current capability. It does rather terribly on a normal alkaline cell, with output dropping sharply after just a few minutes.

I think the L1p is a possible replacement for the Surefire G2's etc. that some people have in their kits. It's only about half as bright, but it runs for longer using a single, duff common AA cell, plus it's LED so no bulb to burn out, and the long dim "tail" as the battery poops out is still useful light (unlike an incandescent whose tail is mostly invisible infrared). The L0p is sort of a shrunken down L1p with lower output and a less-controlled beam shape because of the smaller reflector.

The L0p might make sense accompanying an Arc AAA (or a coin cell light) in a kit, if you want to also have a brighter light along, and you're trying to standardize on AAA cells for everything. (A Princeton Tec Rage is another possibility for a bright light). If you don't mind AA's and a larger light, I'd go for the L1p.

By the way I've been wanting to get around to posting an L1p review here since maybe the L1p isn't well enough known on ETS yet. It would be great if you beat me to it so I don't have to bother <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

mine arrived in the mail today too -- I have to say, it puts my Peak 3 led high output to shame, and it is going on my keychain where the L1P was residing, even though it was bulky. The L0P is tremendous and I think it gives the ARC a run for its money. I really like this new Fenix -- and the L1P is going in the edc kit along with my surefire E2E. I am well equipped in the light department now.

There are several versions of the sf e1l. The current version should be much brighter than the L0p, no surprise since it's much larger. The original version had about the same brightness but more runtime. I think the L1p is a good alternative to the E1l. The E1l has better build quality than any of the Fenix's though.

of course the surefire's have better build quality -- but at more than double the price. even at $50, the Fenix is beyond what a lot of people will spend for a flashlight, but I am impressed with both models. And I like my surefire's too, but I spent a lot more for them. and the surefire will still be edc, since led's are not that great in a smoky environment [ a fire for instance] from what I've read in different forums. the surefire is apparently a stronger beam for those type situations.
