I bought a suunto x-lander six months ago and wear it every day. I have used it on many hiking trips and it works great. The watch looks bulky but it is made of alumimum and very light. You have to reset the altimeter every once in a while, but if you have a topo map it is very easy to get close. The only thing to remember is when you need to rely on the barometer or altimeter you must wear it on your jacket or pack. Your wrist will throw off the sensor a little. The night light is not so bright as to give away your position, but bright enough to use the watch.
