I'm a big fan of
Project Gutenberg because I enjoy reading but hate paying for, storing, and relocating books. I came across
this book which includes detailed notes and copious illustrations on different methods of camping and trapping in the days of yore.
It shall be the object of the author to produce a thoroughly practical volume, presenting as far as possible such examples of the trap kind as any boy, with a moderate degree of ingenuity, could easily construct, and furthermore to illustrate each variety with the utmost plainness, supplemented with the most detailed description.
Take note that is is aimed at boys (specifically, Boy Scouts). By the same author:
Camping For Boys. The word "canvas" is used 23 times.

To wrap this up I would also suggest taking a gander at
this work. Money quotes:
Not from any predatory instinct, but to save appearances, I took a gun. It adds to the manly aspect of a person with a tin pail if he also carries a gun.
And:
I suddenly discovered that I didn't want to see a bear, after all. At about the same moment the bear saw me, stopped eating berries, and regarded me with a glad surprise. It is all very well to imagine what you would do under such circumstances. Probably you wouldn't do it: I didn't.

Relevant to my interests and a chuckle around every bend. Recommended.
