Just received this catalog, if you click on dissection instruments, then dissecting surgical blades and handles, then product photo and description details, it will take you to a catalog page, on page 4, there seems to be three blade styles that might be useful in a PSK. Blade # AJ124, AJ112 & AJ119. It indicates they are available in quantities of 100. I see if we can order some and check it out.

Many years back college bookstores used to sell scalpel blades and handles for biology classes. They may still be a good souce.

Good idea, for a local source for many on the forum. Getting scalpel blades is not a problem, as least for myself; we have hundreds of them in the lab. What was new to me, were these particular blade shapes.

Ken-

Thanks for the tip; couldn't find scapels in my area through the obvious channels, except in large quantities. Made PSK's for brothers for Xmas, and ended up buying 4-packs of Xacto blades as substitute. Work well as makeshift light-duty knife (fish cleaning etc) - surprisingly sturdy (had to make one to demonstrate - they're preparedness-challenged).

One advantage of an Xacto blade is - at least as I recall - that they are a lot thicker, tougher, and probably has a wider blade grind than a scalpel, which might stay sharper longer.
