Years ago camping outlets carried a couple of differant bars from Wilson & Co. The meat bars were beef and pork; one had a mild meat taste, the other had a distinct smoked bacon flavor. The bars weighted two or three ounces, I guess, and were packed in a tough aluminum foil and plastic package inside a pasteboard cover. I believe they were originally produced to meet a military emergency ration requirement.
I carried one or two for years as a backup, particularly hunting in the back country. Ended up eating them when the packaging finally wore thru.
I can't find any current referance for these meat bars or any equivilant. I have eaten the freeze-dried beef and pork sausage patties included in some of the early MRE's, but the Wilson meat bars were superior.
Anyone out there know if any replacements exist?
