Atleast you were prepared!
Last summer a storm knocked power out for 5 hours at the farm. I had a trailer with 15 horses pulling in and no way to get them off the trailer and into the barn. horses hate going into dark places, the whole dark cave eaten alive buy wolves thing. I couldn't find a flash light for the life of me. Truthfuly I think we only had one. ONE FLASHLIGHT!!!! I told myself that if we get through this little mess it will never happen again.
Anyways to finish the story, I went outside jump on the tractor and used the headlights to light up one side of the barn and get the horses off the trailer and into their stalls.
Go ahead ask me how many flashlights I have on hand now!!!
every key chain has a photon, almost everyroom has one plugged into a socket. i have a 1 mil candle power one next to the bed. plus a few maglites big and small also a few new led with lithium batteries. I'm a fanatic about flashlights now.
My wife laughs at me to ,so dose the dog.. but you know atleast i'm prepared now.

In '79, it was common practice to leave taps dribbling, here in Illinois, as it was cold enough outside to freeze pipes on outside walls even though the house was heated to 75-85 degrees. If pipes are on inside walls, you won't need to worry, but if they're on outside walls, give an open tap serious thought if/when the mercury drops below zero.

Yep, I live a little south of Princeton. :-)

If it happens again, I'll keep the water running. And I TOTALLY forgot my 2Mil Candle cordless spotlight! I can't believe I didn't bring out the big gun!

I knew ya had to be fairly close, I work the nuc outages and (as far as I know) this is the only place in the country that can claim that many glow-in-the-dark tea kettles so close together.

hehe... well, I'm guessing that there are other places, but perhaps not so well known.

But yeah, I often bask in the glow of our electrical output here in central IL.
