I'm in the process of re-vamping my BOB and realizing that I carry most of the items on my persona already. Does anyone else find that their BOB is going to be a mostly redundant repository for gears?

this is for urban/suburban area.

I have on me at nearly all times, 1st aid, knife(ives), multi-tool(s), flashlight(s), lighter, tinder, water, etc.

sure there are still essential gears I could carry. but my bob is being taken up mostly by water and extra clothing/warmth gear.

hehe...ya I have kinda come to the same conclusions. Generally, my old EDC/Manpurse items end up in one of my BOBs. With the exception, as you said, of water and some clothing etc, they are redundant. I do include a tarp in my BOB, but I guess technically that is redundant with the trash bag in my Fatboy.

I will go ahead and point it out, in a survival situation, you are really not trying to do that many things, 1) maintain body temperature (fire/Shelter), 2) stay hydrated, 3) and get found (signal), (I think a ETS poster's signature is something to the effect, "thermoregulate, hydrate and communicate" which basically sums it up). By the very nature of preparing for a survival situation redundancy will occur (and is a good thing). That is why I do include the old knives, flashlights etc, because Murphy is sneaky, and I can't and won't EDC redundant items (except maybe two blades/flashlights).

My bob contains refills for edc stuff. For example more bandages, more batteries, etc as well as longer term stuff.

I try to be, but then my jeans weigh 10 tons instead of their normal 5 tons, dammit.

What do you carry as on-person First Aid?

Does overstuffing your "FatBoy" man purse count?

I think it may.

I went to the dr last week. Weighed in at 215 lbs with my jacket on. Took the jacket off and dropped 8 lbs. Took off the shoes and khakis and dropped another three pounds...

I keep stuff like that ON to keep my weight UP.

Normally I'm 135, so with my gear I'm around average weight for my height (five feet 11 inches).

My every-day carry is limited to things which are small and light. That excludes water and shelter. It excludes first aid, too, as I don't see the point in carrying just a couple of plasters.

I do find that my waist-pack duplicates what is in my pockets, but it usually has bigger and better versions.
