Once again I was fooling around with my PSK and I really didn't like the way some of the smaller items rattled around in the box. needles ,hooks ,razor blade, swivles . so i went hunting for something better. I picked up some magnetic tape.at the local hardware store. it's flexible magnetic tape with a glue backing. i cut a small piece to fit into the top of my PSK. all the little metal bits and pieces fit pretty nice and i don't have to take anything apart to fish out one item
remember not to keep your compass in your PSK if you use this tape. I keep mine on my keychain.
don't know if this is a new idea or not .

Do you have a compass in your PSK, and if so is it adversly affected by the strip magnet?

No ,I don't keep a compass in my PSK , I usualy have one on my keychain. I just recieved a K&M matchcase in the mail today. It has one too. (really nice item, not to change the subject ) I now have a back up compass.
I played around with this magnetic tape all afternoon (my one day off this week ) I surprised how well it's working. i dropped my caes a few times from different heights and nothing fell off. You open up the case and all the do dads are held firm to the magnet. not a bad set up if i say so myself

Man, my PSK is packed so tight that nothing would dare try to rattle around in it! I'm talking about my Altoids pocket tin version. My bigger pack-oriented version (based on a Nalgene water bottle) has a bit more room but even that baby's packed pretty tight and I've never noticed any rattling. But in that bigger kit I have the needles, fishhooks, etc. bundled together with fishing line so the group isn't really subject to rattling. Your magnetic tape idea sounds pretty neat for kits that are not crammed full to the gills though!

In Altoid type PSK's, I pack 100% cotton drier lint to stop noise.

Lint is an excellent fire tinder, wound dressing, blood stopper, bait thickener for a trap, hook, or snare, and a fine water filter, when placed in a funnel of aluminum foil from your kit.
