telling others before you go:

(you thought this was going to be a holiday post, didn't you?)

If I don't post Friday night, figure the SAR dogs are out looking for me. Spending the Solstice (OK, it is a holiday post) practicing. Everything should go according to plan, but if not, I'll be a survivicicle.

I think you're supposed to tell folks where you're going for the information to be helpful. LOL

You mean like my parents, when I scoot up to the furtest from the road corner of thier property, and leave my big ugly clunker of a car in thier driveway, and Newtonmass stuff under the tree? :P

Nah....! I THINK what he meant is where are you going to be so we can keep an eye on the local newspapers there and get the scoop when the SAR dogs find your poor, frozen body lying all blue in the snow.

... of which continent? I think we can rule out Antartica. It does say "Vermont", so that should narrow the search area down to a few thousand square miles...

Any bets on that he FORGETS to post on Friday night?

Bah humbug to the lot of you. :P

I figured I'd be asleep right now, but I actually slept pretty good last night. It's amazing what a 0-rated bag, a foam pad and wickup made from a length of maple, a tarp, and a couple feet of snow on top of boughs can do to keep the heat in.

Initial report- alcohal stoves really do suck in snow. Forget 'em once it goes below freezing. On the other hand, the Nuwick served just fine.

And I got my fire going with a Sparklite. I had had my doubts about them.
