I tried using Glad Press N' Seal wrap to make tiny packets for misc pills I wanted to pack in my FAK/PSK... Here are the results : Success! This takes much less space in my kits, compared to the smallest zip-type baggies. And since Press N' Seal is supposed to be safe for food (it wraps, well, food), my guess is it is perfectly safe to use with pills. YMMV.

Can you seal in a row by dosage?
I think it's a great idea by the way, but I would worry about sealing multiple doses in a package that can't be resealed easily and the contents coming out in my PSK.

I never thought about that press-n-seal stuff. Let us know how it holds up to being in your kit for a while.
I've done something similar for quite some time using mylar food pouches (Seal-a-meal, Tilla). But that's a fair bit of work - seal a row, cut off, slide things around and double seal between doses, cut apart. It's so much work that I've been meaning to order the little packets instead - for those things available that way. (Not as small, but good enough)

This is why I also still carry a tiny Zip-loc, to reseal the unused part of a package.
Of course, this solution applies to medication I don't take on a regular basis (I don't take any anyways), but for pills you only take on occasion, I think it works great. And space-wise, it's soooo much more efficient than rolling up those tiny Zip-Locs!
Making a package takes 5 seconds, so... seal away!

Ah. Cool Beans then. How secure is the seal on Ziploc press and seal bags?
Sorry for all the questions.

It's surprisingly, very strong! You gotta stretch it until it rips apart to open it.

Have you ever been, errr, incapacitated by a... I dunno... severe diarhea? LOL! If i'm seriously incapacitated, I doubt that someone will dig in my messenger bag and open up my first aid kit in search for THE pill... I understand your point though. It would be easy to use a marker and write down ADVL, BDRL, TYLN, on the packages... Hey, that becomes a guessing game too! EDIT : Here's another pic I took. You can see that I wrapped coins, batteries, a tinder stick and cotton swabs too!

Bee, keep in mind that some states have laws that require prescription medications be in their original container. It is a misdemeanor if caught with pills wrapped as you describe. Additionally, if there is a firearm present when they are discovered, the charge is enhanced to a felony. My suggestion would be to peel off the prescription label and include it with the Glad wrapped pills/capsules. While that method doesn't strictly follow the letter of the law, I doubt that you would be in any trouble unless you encountered an officer that was having a really bad day before your encounter with him.

Thanks for your addition.
I live in Quebec, and there is no such legislation here. And I don't own or need a firearm. Assuming I am pulled over for a search (which is very unlikely), the officer will probably agree that I am not a drug dealer at all by seeing the compass, fishing kit, band-aids and tinder... So I think it's a go in my case.
Have a good week-end!

Bee , have you subjected them to heat/cold to see how they hold up? I think also you should use a fine perm. marker on the edge with item name and expire date ,and good job thinking out the box

Designed to be frozen, and I think to be microwaved, so I would think it is good to go.
Thanks, Bee, I've been eyeing that stuff for a while. Glad you tested it.

Grabbed a box tonight, and saw they also have a "freezer version" so grabbed one of those too. Haven't tried either one yet, but apparent differences: freezer version's box says "40% thicker" than Press 'n Seal standard wrap, and unlike the standard wrap, has a slight bluish tint, though still see-through.

Yup, I saw the freezer version tonight also. It seems more resistant, but slightly heavier I presume. Pretty nice... :-)
On a side note, I really developped an addiction to Press N' Seal... Yesterday evening, after dinner, all the meat leftovers, mushrooms, etc got zipped N' sealed. Hehe!

Sample packs from the doctor

I get samples of our current meds from our doctor. They are normally individually sealed foil packets or in a small bottle. I rotate them as the expiration date gets low. I called yesterday and got a couple of packs.
Under normal circumstances, you can prove your use of the meds with your prescription from the pharmacy. In the situation where TSHTF, no one is going to be worried about it.
BTW - my doctor is a Scout, his father is an Eagle Scout on our District Executive Committee. The doctor's son is a Tiger Cub this year. I need to check and see if my pharmacist is a Scout - probably...
