Hello,

My knife collection is slowly growing. I do not wish to purchase any new knives for a little while, so here is my collection.

Leatherman Fuse
Vic Craftsman Plus
Vic Huntsman Plus
Vic One-handed Trekker

I keep a Vic Manager (beautiful translucent emerald color) on my keyring, replacing an aging Micra.

I want only one of these to be 24/7 in my medium-size PSK that lives in my car, but gets thrown in my backpack for hiking and snowshoeing trips. Hence, the PSK must be thought out for cold weather city communtes and short backcountry trips.

I see my PSKs as "convenience kits" more than survival kits. Should I favor the Fuse because of the powerful pliers? Maybe i'm better off choosing the Craftsman, has a saw, pen, but weaker pliers?

Are there issues to consider (LM steel vs. SAK steel regarding rust, etc.) Any opinions are appreciated.

Oh, by the way, I EDC the Huntsman in a coat pocket (when I wear one).

Hey, thanks! :-)

I'd say it depends more on the environment you are likely to find yourself in when needing a tool.

If you are inclined to be needing a mulit tool in a more rural/wilderness setting, then go with the craftsman, as the saw blade will likely be needed more often.

If you are in a more urban setting, then the extra strength of the pliers will be of more use.

I got the Leatherman Wave, and enjoy the best of both worlds. It is my EDC, but would suit a PSK just as well. Good strong pliers, an effective saw blade, and just about anything else I need, short of a box end wrench or a socket set.

Assuming I might bring along the Vic One-hand Trekker in the wilderness as a additional knife, I might be better off leaving the Fuse in this kit. I try to EDC the Huntsman so that leaves me with a saw in either case, wether in the wilderness (OH Trekker) or in urban areas (Huntsman).

Now, on to the Craftsman... Any ideas where I could leave this one? Probably not at home, or maybe the office... I'm gonna sleep on this.

Thanks benj!

Bee, my experience is similar to Benjamin's. In wilderness situations the component I've used second in frequency to the knife blade is the saw. IMHO, for shelter building, if you can't cut it well with the saw it's too big to waste your energy on anyway. In urban situations, pliars.
To me your choice of multitool or Vic model entirely depends on the above and your comfort with the tool.

Don't buy any more knives or multitools. You are right on the verge of an addiction. Get help! Don't listen to us here.. we're out of control. Find a gearfreak recovery group and join.
.............I'm going to leave now.. KnifeWorld has a sale going on..

I find myself spending a LOT of time on eBay, sitting in front of the main search page, asking myself "what could I search for today?"... Maybe a new backpack, a new headlamp, a new SAK, a new pouch for my PSK, a sheath?

Hey Bee-

May I respectfully suggest that you've got a serious problem if you can answer "yes" to two or more

? You plan your vacations around auction closing dates.
? eBay is your home page.
? Your number of feedbacks is greater than your IQ.
? You named your first-born (or any pet) "PayPal."
