Yes, we can get these in New Zealand! They are sold in peppermint and spearmint flavours. I just bought on of each (for research purposes) and they are very nice tins (oh, and you can eat the mints too if you like. Not sure how good they are for tinder though).

The tin measures approximately:
75 x 40 x 20 mm
3 x 1 5/8 x 13/16"

You can see a picture here (second article down the page):

Notice the lid is on the small end. It has a very positive closure, but I am not so sure about this orientation for storage of things.

Over the past month or so, I have been building a small stash of these tins. I have 6 being emptied at the moment (2 at home, 2 in the car and 2 at work)
I havent used one to put a kit into, but I have been thinking about it. The small lid will be a problem, but it will be good for longer items.
Water could seep through the hinge as well
A tabacco or altoids type tin seems to be a better option for a PSK.

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately we can't get Altoids in New Zealand.

Having discovered the Eclipse tins I now covet the cinnamon mint flavour that has been released in the US. It comes in a red tin, which would make for a great colour coded set- red, green and blue.

One of my friends just past on to me one of these empty containers. Over winter break from college I will try to build a PSK out of it. It will be my Christmas presant to myself.
