The Trust for America's Health (non-profit whose focus is health issues and disease prevention) just released their annual study of preparedness for major health emergencies: "Ready or Not: Protecting the Public's Health From Diseases, Disasters and Bioterrorism." Rates both the federal government (overall grade of D+), and each of the states individually.

Here's the executive summary. States were rated on 10 factors; this page, at the bottom, has links to each state's results.

Here in western WA, we have mostly the Providence system of hospitals. Considering they can't deal with their own internal day-to-day affairs, the very thought of them attempting to deal with any kind of disaster boggles the mind... especially THEIRS. The idea scares ME to death!

Thanks for the link. Interesting, but not surprisingly, a dismal rating for most. Same thing in the 9/11 Commission's latest report card. *sigh*
