I´ve got some problems with my wife´s style:

She exclusively wears high heels.
I´m unable to talk her out of them.
She insist upon them.

She´s used to have servants and a chauffeur, so she only carries a tiny handbag for make-up and cellphone as "edc" or "psk". Anything else in her oppinion is undue for a lady that doubtless she is.

What can I give to her handbag to help her commute and travel by foot when no cab or limosine will be there to transport her so that her pumps will not be the shoes to choose?

For example I´m thinking of a pair of sock-like shoes that are waterproof and abrasion resist with a punctureproof sole...

Any ideas ?

Maybe you can get a shoe designer to make her custom-made steel sole inserts along with a hidden compartment in order to store s fishing kit or a mini-Bic... I would like that myself!

I'm suprised that comfy shoes are so high on your list of things for your wife.

Since she is used to a chauffeur, is she in physical condition to walk long distances, even in comfy shoes?

Where would you store these emergency shoes? Do they have to be small enough to fit in the handbag? If so, I think the tiny space would probably be better spent on something else, like a whistle or SAK or other PSK stuff.

A possible alternative is to look at her existing shoes and find more durable high heeled shoes for her (not pumps) for her regular wear. If she is used to wearing heels, it would probably feel very strange to her to start wearing shoes without heels. However, if you found some fashionable high heels for her that just happened to offer more support than her current pumps, she might try them.

Durable (and fashionable) high heeled shoes do exist, even if they aren't pumps. My current everyday shoes have high heels of about 2 1/2". I can run in heels and I have climbed the Great Wall of China in high heels.

Yes, my feet do hurt after being on them for a long period of time, and DH is constantly complaining about my choices in footgear, but they are "good enough" for me.

I never saw the movie, but your situation makes me think of "The Princess and the Warrior" for some reason.

She sounds tough, though, since she can walk in heels for any distance without discomfort. I love how my legs look in heels, but when I've got them on I might as well have my husband carry me around.

If she can function, and most importantly: run, in heels, then you can't really help what's on her feet since you can't logically fit shoes in her purse. You're probably fighting a losing battle trying to get her to reconsider her footwear.

A decent first aid kit small enough to fit in her purse would be a better notion. Band-aids and moleskin would probably be a great help.

Your wife isn't going to change ANYTHING until she sees the need herself. We shall all hope that if a situation occurs, she is lucky enough to survive.

Also, after many years of wearing high heels, she may not be ABLE to wear anything else. Often, the tendons in the back of the leg contract from not being used, and the person just can't walk in flat-soled shoes.

Dang I gotta watch when the wife sneeks up on me like that, that's gonna leave a mark.

I am thinking if the woman I loved was truly that out of touch that she would not even consider the possibility, I would set her up. It is a tough love kinda thing, to put someone we care about into a predicament to teach them a lesson they will not otherwise take counsel on. I had to do it for both my daughters in other situations, and it is effective, though it is painful to watch, knowing the truth.

For instance, imagine being chauffered into the the country somewhere, when the vehicle breaks down, and the cellphone won't work, and no one comes or goes etc, etc. You get the picture. Put them in a position where they are forced to face the hardship, while clandestinely controlling the situation so it doesn't get out of control and turn into a real emergency and without getting caught in the setup.

Now, don't no one ever tell my girls that I've admitted to setting them up like that. They'll figure out when it happened, and the won't be happy, and then I'll be sprouting more lumps.

My wife?s comfort is always an issue to me. I love her!

I?ve packed a Altoids-PSK for her some times ago but she didn?t carry it because she only takes her cellphone, her key, her tiny purse and her powder-tin from one handbag to the other ...
As a result I fitted a capsual, a LED-light and a customized Mini-Swiss-Army-Knife to her key.
