The first ETS EquippedCast podcast is available at: http://www.equipped.org/podcast.htmThis is an experiment and we'll see what reaction is. Additional casts are in the works and eventually we'll hopefully be doing interviews and such. Hopefully, this will get lots easier <!> as we get more experience. Please be kind, this is our first effort. <~> The casts are rated according to the audience at which they are directed. Many, especially in the beginning, will be oriented towards those with little or no experience. The idea is that these casts will, for the most part, reach a new audience that heretofore has either not visited ETS or who have only just begun to think about survival and emergency preparedness. EquippedCasts rated BASIC will contain simplifications and generalizations that may drive some with more experience a bit nuts, but they are necessary to fit the material into the allotted time frame and to make it easily understood by the novice, and also not scare them away or confuse them with too much information. So, please bear with me on this. <g> Depending upon response, we may open a new section of the forum specifically for podcast related discussion, we'll just see how it goes. Special thanks to Steve White, whose able assitance and support was instrumental in making this possible and to Joe Godfrey who composed and performed our theme music.

The server doesn't know about it- I tried to grab it, and got a 404.
Or, it could be that my curse is spreading.

Great work. I like it a lot.
One note. Granted I am the Adult ADD poster child <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I have read and reread the Web text version of the 72 hour kit. I still picked up on several things which I had either forgotten or I had overlooked.
Anyways, keep them coming please.

Excellent webcast! I live in earthquake country and would like to hear a podcast about longer-term survival (weeks instead of days). After the Loma Prieta earthquake, the S.F. police and fire departments openly state they don't have the resourses to handle more than a small number of emergencies after a major earthquake. S.F. and neighboring cities are relying on trained neighborhood teams to do most of the hands-on work. Hopefully, this will help prevent small problems (fires, injuries, rescues) from becoming big problems. I'm half-way through their 6-week class and just got my HAM technical class license. Here's the local link: http://www.sfgov.org/site/sfnert_index.asp. Best regards and keep up the good work!

I was going to ask where the "transcript" was, then realized it was the 72 hour kit page. Very nice. I look forward to the discussions that will inevitably take place on the new lessons (or reinforced lessons) that will occur after major incidents. It will be the best way to get the idea across.
We all know we have to take care of ourselves, and this is what we're about here, but perhaps in the future some discussions on how our "rescuers" operate so that we have a better understanding of what they do. It may help in the decision making process. Maybe there is some "standard operating procedure" of the Coast Guard that you might be able to exploit. Who knows, but it would definately help in the "big picture".

I like the podcast idea and I enjoyed listening to it. I hope that offering this kind of information in a slightly different way will interest people who otherwise wouldn't read the website or dig through forum threads.
Gee, Doug, now we'll all have to start EDC'ing a portable music player so we can always have this kind of valuable info available to us no matter where disaster strikes! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
So...how much paracord and duct tape can comfortably be wrapped around an iPod Nano...? <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks much. Most of these, at least initially, will come for pages on the ETS site. In this case, it was that specific page, with a little extra added that I added back into the page. In other cases, it won't be so clear cut. And in some cases, like the interviews and such, it obviously won't be. Unless I get someone to volunteer to transcribe the podcasts (HINT, HINT!), we can't offer transcriptions, as nice as that would be to have. Simply costs too much or way too much time, especially as slow as I type, <g> for me to do myself.

I enjoyed it too. It takes less efforts to listen to it than read it on a screen. And it's good for my english pronunciation especially when I read along with the transcript. Now I know how to pronounce Mylar and LED for exemple... (I would say "lead" before)
Thank you. François

Doug - your URL inside the POD version of the podcast has a bad link. The filename contains "2205" instead of 2005. Could you fix it so we can listen via iTunes?

Hi Doug -
Still not working here; the server has the bad filename inside the RSS feed defining the Podcast. Did this one get missed?
This is the RSS feed at:

I'd love to hear about evacuations as a topic.
I think it would be very informative and interesting if you could have a few people with first hand accounts. I've read online journals of people and their observations would be riveting if heard first hand.
I'd love to hear suggestions and advice on preps before (including vehicle advice), what to be aware, power failure and gasoline supply isses, speed issues etc.

Doug,
Have you ever thought of doing a radio "Tom Gresham's Gun Talk" style of "Doug's ETS" show? I know you have been on Gun Talk and it was very interesting.
Thanks!
