I've never used it in an "Emergency" - I'm lucky enough to not yet have found myself in a real emergency. I have, however, used it to boil water and to start a reluctant fire where the surrounding tinder was wet or, at best, damp. Started the fire in windy conditions like a champ. It was cold (nearly 32° F) and boiling the water was a little more challenging. Works better with some kind of wind screen and a lid on the pot is pretty much a must.
