I'm fairly confident that I could survive as long as I crashlanded near a cabin in which were stored winter clothing, snowshoes, a rifle w/ plenty of ammunition, an axe, a saw, and plenty of salt, beans, flour, suger, coffee, and vitamin C tablets. A couple of jugs of moonshine wouldn't hurt either.

I wonder what I would be doing up there without at least some of these items though?

I'm with you, only if I am gonna be in there for a year, why bother coming out?

And another thing, why would you want to ruin it by bringing a woman into the fantasy? Not very Robinson Caruso old sport.

Kinda reminds me of that post about the 10 survival items and some nut lists off 9 spoiled, pampered women. If I got that unlucky, I'd need a gun with one bullet to end the misery of listening to all that whining the first night out.

Now maybe if I could find me a decent, round squaw to help keep me warm at night and good teeth to work hide with, that I could see.

Flame on...

I appreciate your observation on the Difficulty of Surviving that long in your Northern Ontario location, -but I Differ! Of course its possible to Survive there, for a year or plenty longer, (even on minimal gear), -if one has the Knowledge, Wherewithal, and etc for it. You say "anybody" so I answer "yes". There's bound to be SOME ONE out their who is an exceptional outdoors savvy person and exceptional trapper / small game hunter who could eek out for a year. It wouldn't be me. I'd starve to death, my ability to forage for food and game is about zero.
