On the other hand...
Welcome to all newbies and lurkers.
Read the posts and make educated decisons about what you are willing to do to prepare. This board is tilted toward equipment, so remember that both planning and education are important, too.
The "conventional wisdom" about preparderness is rapidily changing -older sites and books may be out of date.*
Enjoy your search,
TRO
( * especially about how long to prepare for, regarding stored food and water.)

The people here are very nice, very emotionally stable.
No one is going to flame or jump on you for asking "dumb" questions. There ARE no dumb questions! If you don't know the answer, why would the question be dumb?

I agree with much of the Spirit and Content of what you say there! But People've got to come on board, -only when and as they are Ready to, and so Inclined. A Hearty Welcome! (I've just been reminded of the Scout on the cover of my old Scout Handbook, -early 70s, -and the way he's waving his hand for one to come Along!). -But No Rushing it or anybody! If someone's inclined to Lurk, -then I'm Happy to have them so Sharing our Company, -in that way! Many so first "Test the Waters" of course, -Many of these eventually do Come on Board. But in their own Good Time. When, As, and If personally Ready and Inclined to do so. As far as I'm concerned, -"There is No Undue Rush!". [color:"black"] Ors

Your Posting prompted me to register. For that thanks! I have been reading posts in this forum for several weeks (much to my profit). Although I don't have anything to contribute I thought I should register and say Hello and Thanks again! Jon Davis

As one Midwesterner to another, welcome!
My original post was written just after I read "Another Senseless Tragedy" and I was mad. Mad that people, in general, have gotten so complacent in their everyday lives. And I happened to notice at that time that there were 3 registered users on the board and about 30 anonymous users. I thought, "why don't they start talking and get involved?"
No, my post wasn't tongue in cheek and it wasn't elitest (if you're not going to post to the forum, just get out!) But I don't want to brow beat anyone into signing up and posting either. Too many times, silence implies agreement, whether you actually agree with something or not.
I do know, as another esteemed ETSer said, that people will join in their own time. I've just dealt with too many people that felt like they didn't have any power, didn't have any choice. I am saying that people that find their way here have a voice, and the more people that use that voice, then the more all of us learn, and the more all of us grow and get better at doing what we do and that spreads to our friends and families and communities and pretty soon, we're all holding hands and singing and...
I think you get the point <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
And don't be so sure that you don't have something to contribute! What are your questions? What do you do to prepare? What would you like to do?
We ALL have something to say (I can't seem to shut up sometimes! ) <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
