Any tape I've known has remained in better shape when stuck to itself. It might be best to attach one end to a sample credit card or a small core (like a straw or birthday candle) and roll it over itself.

Plastics (either in the tape or what you're attaching it to) are the trickiest. Plastics and adhesives often conflict with each other chemically.
