Checked out one of my PSK's to get ready for hunter safety course and found out that one of my "bright" ideas didn't work worth a hoot. I put Electrical tape, 1st aid tape and duct tape on waxed/butcher paper to keep from unrolling it about a year ago. It has been in heat and the paper stuck to the tape making it useless. I used an ammo pouch for this PSK.

When we change the clocks for daylight savings time I do three things:
1. Check the smoke alarms
2. Check the generator
3. Check my PSK, BOBs, ect.

It's a good idea to check all those things often.

From one Paul to another...that's a great idea. Although with the proposed change in DST, your schedule won't be every 6 months.

Any tape I've known has remained in better shape when stuck to itself. It might be best to attach one end to a sample credit card or a small core (like a straw or birthday candle) and roll it over itself.

Plastics (either in the tape or what you're attaching it to) are the trickiest. Plastics and adhesives often conflict with each other chemically.

Susan,
That's the basic solution I came up with. I plan to fill a straw with cotton/vaseline tinder and seal it and then wrap the tape around it. I think it will work if the vaseline doesn't escape.

Heat-seal the ends of the straw to keep it from leaking. I have made several 2-3 inch long tubes of tinder that are sealed tight and water proof.

The heat-sealed straws are also good for carrying serving-sized bleach for water purification. Just be sure to mark which is which or used different-colored straws.

Maybe I'm paranoid...I check them once a month <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

In regards to the original post, at least you can take comfort in the fact that the tape itself did exactly what it was supposed to! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
