Food isn't a high priority item anyway - it takes weeks to starve. As I recall, Doug said he included a fishing kit because (a) the marketting people told him to; (b) it didn't add much cost or bulk; (c) it might provide some occupational therapy while waiting to be rescued. So you don't really need to replace it with anything specific.
If you do want something which covers the "food" group, more snare wire would be the obvious choice. You might include some more chordage and safety pins too, in the hope of improvising a fishing kit if you change you mind. Wire, chordage and pins are multiple-use items.
You might also include documentation on how and where to tie a snare, dead-fall traps, what plants are edible etc.
Consider adding some condiments, eg salt. It could make whatever you catch more palettable.
