Let's say you were a person who doesn't fish. You understand the basic concepts, but haven't done a whole lot of it. Part of the reason is that you don't like the taste of sea food. In fact all fish, crab, lobster, etc. tastes the same to you, and you really don't like it.
Because of this fact, you can never envision yourself using a PSK fishing kit. I know, I know, if the situation were dire, you'd probably eat anything you were reasonably sure was safe, even if you didn't like the taste. Nevertheless, you decide you want to exclude a fishing kit from your PSK.
What do you fill the space with?

there was a thread similar to this last week, you can do a search on 'fishing'
For my part, I have a gill net in my bug out bag to use for fishing in a survival situation, I can't see much use for the little fishing hooks in most psk's, and you might catch some small animals with a gill net.

That was mine.
Keep in mind, Ors, that you can catch more than just fish with fishhooks. You can catch birds with them, and if you have a slick enough wrist, if you fluttered it over the water like it was a ribbon, so long as you had something high-contrast on the hook, you could catch frog very easily.

I was the guy who started the last fishing thread, so the "that was mine" was reply to you, and the rest was just ideas.
I'm tired, I might not make sense

That is a hard question. Start by unloading and laying it all out. Make a list of everything in separate catagories/groups. eg signalling, emergency devices, water and food etc. See the Kits links etc from the ETS home page for what I mean. Then revue. What is missing? what can be improved? What do you need more of? If you cant think of anything pack more cotton balls as tinder and to stop the rattles, or upgrade to a smaller tin. Actually I dont think I have see anyone here with the problem of having with to much space to fill before Not knowing what else you have in there makes it a bit hard to narrow things down any further.

My first choice would be to fill it with tinder (tinderquik, cotton ball, etc). My second choice would be an extra MP-1 tab or 2. These are things that I can't really see having too much of so if I have a an extra square 0.25"-0.5" then that's probably what I would stick in it. If you arent already carrying a small light then you might want to consider a Photon microlight also.

I hate seafood too (comes from having food poisoning at a seafood place when I was younger). Even the smell of some of the seafood places makes me gah....
Still, my advice is to carry it anyway. Sure beats ants and grubs, and you can do other things with the fishing gear as well. The line can be used for lashing, for example- I think spiderwire is available in like 80 pound test!

Food isn't a high priority item anyway - it takes weeks to starve. As I recall, Doug said he included a fishing kit because (a) the marketting people told him to; (b) it didn't add much cost or bulk; (c) it might provide some occupational therapy while waiting to be rescued. So you don't really need to replace it with anything specific.
If you do want something which covers the "food" group, more snare wire would be the obvious choice. You might include some more chordage and safety pins too, in the hope of improvising a fishing kit if you change you mind. Wire, chordage and pins are multiple-use items.
You might also include documentation on how and where to tie a snare, dead-fall traps, what plants are edible etc.
Consider adding some condiments, eg salt. It could make whatever you catch more palettable.

Long before you starve to death you may suffer in many other ways from lack of food... at least that is my understanding. This has raised some questions in my mind but I think it would be best placed in another thread so I will post one.
