Expanding on Ron's suggestion, keep your eyes open for novelty items with integrated – but removable – clocks. I was lucky enough to get this Timex that way, which has been reliable for nearly ten years.

Edit: Timex website says that Wal-Mart and K-Mart carry their collectible mini-clocks (mounted in a variety of "collectibles"). Doesn't mention prices. Wal-Marts in Germany?
