It's just too bad we can't get BACK to those Good Old Days... and to hell with criminals' rights.

I grew up in the south (Alabama). Back the early 70's it was very common to see people with knifes on their belts, and gun racks in the truck, most of the time with the guns loaded. The fact that people could do this, without being questioned by the police, and without much fear of the guns being stolen, speaks volumes about the differences in our society then and now.

IIRC it was a cardinal, either Richelieu or Mazarin, who was displeased to see the men using the point of their knives to clean their teeth with ... So he asked for the knives to have their tip rounded.
But, now, that MY recollection of french history... and I'm not that big in history ...

You're absolutely right! I grew up in a suburb of Houston around the same time. It seemed like every other pick-up had a gun rack in the rear window. What ever happened to them?

I would think that a slap on the back of the head would be sufficient to discuorage that practice.

Hey !
the guys using pointed knives to clean their teeth were peers of the kingdom... You don't slap peers of the kingdom behind the head !!!!!
OTOH, in those times, you may cut their heads off or have them assassinated, if it suits your political agenda ....

When you have a crapy oposition party, you get a crapy government...... need I say more.

Our new laws which are supposed to be appoved today make the anti terror laws in the UK look tame. They have also novelled the media making it an offense to mention anything about there use.
Didn't Hitler start off something like this?
