Interesting court case here this week. A chap arrested with a leatherman in his briefcase got off by showing he used it regularily. Apparently locking blades are illegal if carried without good reason. He said he opened envelopes etc all the time. He even got off with a telescopic baton in the briefcase he said his children had put in their afer playing with it and he hadn't realised. A weapon is completely illegal in a public place here. Course he was a middle aged respectable company director which probably helped.

I've been hassled here in Australia for having my leatherman on my belt by the police. I argued I used it for work and got out of it.
We can use lockblades here, but any knife can be considered an offensive weapon at the descretion of the police officer.

What happened to the race that built an empire, fought world wars, ruled the seas? How the mighty have fallen.

Oh dear, Sweeny Todd used what, a non locking straitrazor ? We have the King of France to thank for round pointed steaknives and ship's captains who could stitch a slashwound but not a stab wound for the 'sailor's sheepfoot.' So fixing a social problem with a technology fix is nothing new. You want to roll back onerous kife laws? Stop shaving, pick up your steak in your hands, rip a bite off and wave the Tbone at the chef screaming your compliments. Silly laws are only defeated by silly reactions that show their sillyness. Don't use logic, it's wasted on illogical thinkers. Use aesthetics , let a society without this most fundamental a tool come to a sputtering stop. Then stand tall and proud, openly displaying that Swiss Sak Champ to the wide eyed masses like Prometheus unbound

Not too long ago, most ffolke here in the states were packing firearms.

Much politer society back in the day. Kinda forced you to pay attention to detail, and endeavour to not be so narcissistic and rude.

Here's his account of the original event. It's not pleasant reading. It's actually as much about the anti-terrorism laws as about knives. We were told they were just for emergencies, but now they are getting used against hecklers.
