The Popular Mechanics article was indeed a very interesting read (I think this is the first time I’ve read Popular Mechanics since I was a kid).
The best survival articles are ones which include case studies, analyzing what a person did wrong and what they did right. Field & Stream published such an article in their February 2004 issue, called
