There was a British courtroom drama called Rumpole of the Bailey (Rumpole was a defense lawyer), and Rumpole always referred to his wife as She Who Must Be Obeyed.
That was a GREAT show, and I miss seeing it...

But he was not JUST lawyer, he was a barrister. A barrister is a lawyer who has been admitted to "plead at the bar." The other type of lawyer is a solicitor. They are "office lawyers", while barristers are "courtroom lawyers"...
