We purchased some older Panasonic Toughbook computers for our recent beacon test and I now have to get rid of them. Two for sale. Thought I'd give you guys first dibs on them before we try to sell them on Ebay. $600 each, same as we paid for as a package deal and less than the typical Ebay price, and these have more RAM and larger hard drive than most. I'll include ground shipping in the continental U.S.

They ran flawlessly during the test. Most of the time we ran them off a generator, since they had to run all day, but the battery does work and new batteries are available. The additional SDRAM (384 MB) makes a huge difference in capability and speed, compensating in part for the somewhat slow older CPU. They are fine for basic needs and tough as nails and highly water and dirt resistant. Great for use in the field

Doug,

My wife is looking for a laptop. Can you post a picture?

Thanks!

I'll see about taking a photo later today. Quite frankly, this isn't the laptop I'd recommend to someone for general purpose use. You pay quite a penalty in performance, screen size and weight for the ruggedness. You can get a brand new Dell or others for that price these days that will be faster with a better screen, etc. OTOH, it she's tough on equipment... <g>

What is the screen resolution? Is it a typical proprietary lithium battery pack or did they do something reasonable? tnx

Laptops use Litium Ion, not lithium (plain old lithium is non rechargeable). Laptops can't really use anything reasonable, too much current draw for the space.

Well, there were some Hitachi models that used commodity lithium ion camcorder packs that you can get from practically anywhere, instead of special packs unique to that laptop model. I'd call that reasonable.

Native resolution for the laptop screen itself is 800 x 600.

It uses a proprietary lithium ion battery, about $100-$130 from numerous vendors. Just do a Google search on: CF 28 battery
