How many of you have seen "Panic in Year Zero"?
Ray Milland, Frankie Avalon - Early 60's vintage.
Just recently saw it. Not bad for a 60's movie.

another one is 'Island in the Sky' A John Wayne movie recently released on dvd. Wayne and crew are down in arctic cold somewhere north of Canada, and manage to survive extreme sub zero with a few cans of salmon and candy bars till they get rescued several days later. Highly improbable survival film.

I enjoyed Panic in the Year Zero - it's actually a pretty good TEOTWAWKI movie if you can get into the amped up 1950's melodrama. The Ray Milland character demonstrated pretty good decision making on the fly...

It also brought to mind one of the often overlooked aspects of who survives and who doesn't - LUCK! It really helps when you're way out ot town driving your family pulling a loaded camping trailer.

Great flick. It was not re-released until very recently.

People in that film - gasp - acually die in survival situations.

Funny how in the movie gas was 34 cents a gallon and Ray Milland was prepared to pay $10 for 30 gallons and the gas station attendant said that would be $90 / $3.00 a gallon, he hadn't had the time to change the price yet. A little over 40 years later, and that's what we are paying. Using that formula in the end of the world scenario of the movie, 30 gallons would be $900 fill up. Jeesh! Guess we need to put some more cash in the psk!

What about Lost Flight, with Lloyd Bridges, anybody remember seeing that one? That is the movie that really got me interested in survival stuff. A trip to the bookstore turned up Survival With Style, by Angier. I was hooked! lol. Led to a 12 year stay in the Air Force, 8 of those teaching survival, and its still my "hobby" today :-)

Should I mention "Robinson Crusoe on Mars"? Nah ... pretty silly and far fetched. But if you like 50's - 60's SciFi...

That was a great movie :-) You know you are really in deep when you have to burn rocks for your oxygen.
