It is an interesting development. Geologists at the University of Washington have been predicting an overdue mega quake in the Pacific Northwest since the mid 80s (Richter 9+). As time goes by, the inevitability of the quake should be increasingly imminent.

I believe that such an event could likely effect other geologic events, such as the eruption of the Yellowstone caldera, which is also well overdue. The public concern over what will happen with the San Andreas faultline seems disproportionately overstated compared to the massive devastation potential of these other two events, which seismologists have placed greater emphasis on.

It is fascinating that, as our scientific abilities evolve, we are discovering ever more possibilities for our destruction. Kinda ironic. It seems as time goes by, our end is more and more inevitable??? Ironic too compared to the alarmist posture of the counterculture of the 60s claiming we would destroy ourselves. Mankind is truly arrogant.

Saw a great special on the Yellowstone caldera, don't remember what network. I've been there twice and you'd never expect the potential there from looking at it.
