Photon freedom covert add-on?

Hi!
I bought a Photon freedom micro-light.
Although I would've prefered the yellow Doug Ritter special edition, I still find it's a great little light.
I admit that the side scatter is an issue and i'm trying to find the best way to eliminate it. In other words, i'm trying to mod it to make it more "covert", to use the right term.
Would using a small piece of heatshrink tubing over the LED be a decent idea? I'm worried that the heat coming from the lighter needed to actually shrink the rubber will damage the LED bulb... or won't it?
Any ideas on this convertion are welcome!

If the LED protrudes... could you paint the sides of the LED itself?

That's a great idea -- what kind of paint would you use?

Dunno... I think I'd probably try a permanent marker first. If it sticks and is opaque, it'd probably be the best bet since it wouldn't scrape off like paint.

Damn, I knew that I should have EDC'ed a sharpie... I could have tried it right now...

Not a bad idea, but I liked the idea of having the mod "reversible"... With the shrink tubing, it's just a matter of pulling the rubber with your fingers?

You can certainly try it. Careful application of the heat....
Another reversible idea: Black electrician's tape, or maybe gaffer tape. Cut a strip to fit and wrap around.
The best solution would be to lose the photon and get an Arc.

Examined my Ritter Photon closely. The short length of tubing kinda resembles the 1/4-in. black micro tubing I use for drip irrigation. Put a cheap micrometer on my Photon tube...~25-in. x .18-in (metric? 6.5mm OD x 4.5mm ID). Don't trust my measurements. Wonder if the tubing is press-fit, or held in place with a dab of epoxy? I like your conversion idea, but would you really need heat shrink tubing?

I bought the covert one, and didn't like the loss of spill so I did the reverse conversion (which was probably easier - cut off the collar).

Not sure if it would get hot enough or not but how about trying the blow dryer to shrink the shrink-tube?
