To be perfectly honest, if you are carrying a gun and don't know where the safety catch is, then its about as much use as a stone. You have to train in the skill that your protection allows. Here in UK virtually nothing is allowed so I looked at womens self defence as opposed to a martial art.
Did get strange looks from the girlies when a 15 stone guy walked in, but they liked my logic that if they could learn how to disarm/disable an aggressive guy, then I would fare better as I was a bit stronger than them.
Now the class gets to defend against an aggressive attacker far heavier than themselves and I get to learn to defend with the minimum of effort.
One pointer though.... I go to a jujitsu club that teaches self defence rather than others, as usually if you disarm someone they WILL rush you and go to the floor. So grappling is your next winning point.
Please don't post telling me about the virtues and vices of a particular art, I respect them all for what they teach you mentally and spiritually, I just like the ability to defend at long and short range as opposed to having to attack.
In summary, they cant prohibit taking your limbs on board so basically thats your weapons... learn to use them.
Even better is to turn and run or else talk your way out. the best blocking technique is them not throwing the punch
