Does anyone have experence with the Exploration Products Emergency Fishing Kit? I now have the typical few hooks, line and sinkers in my kit, but looking to expand the fishing equipment a little.

I had completed freshwater testing of several units and was working on a ocean review. Unfortunately everything went up in my apt fire. The exploration kit is a decent assembly in a large, awkward plastic tube. My favourite of the bunch is the WSI ( World Survival Institute) assembled by Chris Janowskie in Alaska. Along with a first rate fishing kit, Chris provides a small folding knife and metal match. Most of the gear is in a round tin, with some line outside in a large ziplok. Chris' provides a setup for actually constructing a crude, but effective rod and reel! The military issue TRACON is best found on EBAY, with prices @ $25-$30 dollars. This is a close second if only for the diverse gear in a handy, pocket size plastic box.

I agree with Chris, who I think basically said there is nothing that you can't reproduce eswhere in less space.

My caviot is the spring traps they sell: http://www.epcamps.com/Speed_Hook.html

These things work, and not just just on fish. Be prepared to club a squirrel to death. I put some out for wild turkey, just for the halibut, and, well, ... She made a nice small meal anyway.

Thanks for the ideas :-). I found a couple of the military fishing kits at a local surplus store, the complete kit for $20. I think this is a great deal, you could not buy the lures, line, hardwear ect at a discount store for that amount. I bought one to store, and one to practice with. I will let you know how it works out after the weekend.

Were you talking about the Emergency Freshwater Fishing Kit, or the Small Emergency Fishing Kit?

Has anyone here used their water bag... I bought a couple but have not had the oppertunity to test them yet...

About the Speedhooks... There are two models, and I am not SURE which one they are selling...One just includes the speedhood and some cord, while the other has fishing line, dehydraded bait and everything else you need to get fish...
That is the one you want.
