I have one, it is a pretty good book, but it is very basic. If you already read something like the SAS guide then this book doesn't offer anything new. However, it would make a good gift book for someone new to wilderness survival as it isn't complicated to read.

I wonder if a free guide like this exists in 3"x5" format (like index cards). Would fit nicely in a PSK.

Maybe some free .PDF floating around could be condensed in 3"x5"?

I thumbed through that the other day. I put it down quickly when he said something like only a rare few can start a fire with a sparking rod, so get plenty of matches..... <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Wayne is a popular writer in the firearm/outdoor magazine genre. We discussed his survival knife in an earlier thread . Writers look around in their field, see a resource and exploit it. This particular resource is the survival manual genre, and the kindling for new fires is getting rather sparce. Few authors will kick at a overlooked stump and share a treasure of fat grubs. For a durable, pocket manual get the SAS GEM. Kochanski, Cody and several others are masters at regional information. Military manuals are a decent resource, though the neat illustrations of shelters with the geometric precision of a barracks bedcorner always look different where Mother Nature abhors a straight line.
