Isn't this the second outtage in a week or so? What's the problem? Anything we can help with?

When ETS forum goes down I realize how much of a creature of habit I am. Totally distrupted by daily web browsing routine.

Probably increment that counter by quite a few... did anyone else notice how quickly users logged back on after a multiday outtage? We aren't the only ones to hit "reload" every couple of minutes. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, I couldn't hurt. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> There have been two seprate issues. One, the server locked up three times and second, the ETS Forum database got corrupted twice in a brief period, unrelated to the lock-ups, we think. Though the ETS server is rather long in the tooth, we're not sure that the problem is the overall age of the server (it's been upgraded on a number of occasions) or a flaky component or the OS, or the data base itself getting flaky, or... Dave is looking into it. Just as soon we didn't have to replace the server and if the server isn't really the problem, no sense doing that, as nice as it would be to have a cool new server. <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Well, given that the error messages have paths that make me think the host OS is windoze, I'm ready to convict and execute the operating system. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Really? It looked like PHP/MySQL error messages. Admittedly, those can be run on Windoze, usually they are run on Linux/Apache.

Yeah... I don't have a screen cap of the messages, but the error was reporting a php error in a file on a windoze drive path. I have no idea if the database is also running on that host or not.
The following is part of the headers ETS' server sends back: <pre><font class="small">code:</font><hr> Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0 X-Powered-By: PHP/4.2.3 </pre><hr>
Which is completely weird. Why run a PHP/MySQL app on windows? Nothing (apparently) tying it to windows. Of course this is just the forum part of a larger site that may be windows specific.
(Edited to add the header giving the PHP version number.)

I'll go ahead and Identify myself as geek.
The give away for me was the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot
P.S. I am going to bet a coffee that it was mysql bombing out, rather than M$. Since the server was still serving static page, I'd guess the OS had not given up the ghost....yet ;-)

Guys if we are stuck in a command center with Skynet acting up I definiately want you on my side. My idea of reboot acctually involves my boot.

As I would you if the Terminator got the drop on me.
I would bet there are very few things more complex than the human body (certainly not computers), it boils down to learning the lexicon.

How do you know we're not Skynet?
Think about it... This site didn't exist until well after 8/29/97. What better way to identify those humans most likely to survive?
Thanks for the GPS coords, btw. MIRV target reprogramming complete.
Have a nice day. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Knew there was a reason I fudged the position a bit. These are conventional warheads, right?
